The Maritime Museum of Barcelona has launched the digital book Las Reales Atarazanas de Barcelona en la edad moderna. La gran fábrica de galeras de la monarquía hispánica (siglos XVI-XVIII), by A. Jorge Aguilera López and Alfredo Chamorro Esteban.

This work is the result of research promoted by the Museu Marítim de Barcelona. It is an essential contribution to the knowledge of the history of this galley’s arsenal, and to rewrite the history of Barcelona and Catalonia in a period that has not received the attention that deserves.

If you would like to submit articles for the DOSSIER the topic for this 30th issue is the supply of timber for shipbuilding and the needs of the navy, in different places and countries involved in this trade throughout the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries. Articles will be accepted until 25 July 2022.

Online International Conference MERMAIDS. (En)Gendering Maritime Labour and Business Histories (University of Ljubljana, 9-10-11 February 2022 - via Zoom)
The aim of the conference is to highlight the modalities through which gender norms shaped or influenced labour market participation, and business and labour cultures in the maritime sector and wider industries and services in European port/emporium cities and maritime communities in Modern times (the nineteenth and twentieth centuries).
