Photographer on board. The Josep Coté case

Abstract

Starting from the case of Josep Coté, who was the official photographer on board Marqués de Comillas, this work aims to deepen into the figure of 20th century photographers by trade in Catalonia and Spain. Josep Coté belongs to a group of professionals who left thousands of photographies, but in fact we know very little about their job. They were not amateurs, but photography provided their income or other means of livelihood and, in many cases, they were hired by big shipping companies. There are very few studies about this figure and we actually know very little about it.
